Why Life, Love, and Liberty?

I christened my web blog life, love, and liberty because each of those terms represents something of value in this world…

Life-The fountainhead of all our joys and sorrows that makes the pursuit of our dreams possible and exists even during our most depressive of times.

Love-That joyous connection we experience with another human being whether as friends or lovers that can make life all the more worthwhile.

Liberty-An often used term but I see liberty as being free of coercion and sovereign in your own person to the extent that you respect the same in others. It’s important to emphasize that liberty is not merely a political phenomenon but also a cultural one.

A good example is: A society that had no discriminatory legal restrictions on females but which had a cultural atmosphere that was soaked in philosophical ideas which regarded women as inferior, incompetent, depraved, and so on by their very nature would still be an oppressive one for females to live in.

The majority view of what constitutes genuine family/marriage has a reciporal effect on the legal dimension. It doesn’t do enough to destatize the institution without a philosophical transformation on the nature of family/marriage. This means the promotion of an expansive conception of marriage that fully incorporates gay couples. Why is this important? Because a society ruled by less inclusive ideas wouldn’t be as pleasant for gays/lesbians to live in.They could face the prospect of being denied eligibility for family related privileges by numerous organizations. A good example would be hospitals denying gay/lesbian individuals familial visits to their sick partners. [...]
